The four silks
Assam produces four silks, and only one place on earth produces the first of them. Knowing how they differ is the difference between buying a colour and buying a cloth.
মুগা
Muga is the only silk in the world that is born gold. Nothing is added to it — the colour is the fibre, and it deepens rather than fades with every wash.
Golden, ceremonial, grows lustrous with age
পাট
Where Muga is gold, Paat is light. It is the mulberry silk of Assam — spun brilliant white, and the fibre a weaver reaches for when a drape has to catch the light rather than hold it.
Ivory, luminous, soft in the fall
এৰী
Eri is the quiet one. It has no shine to speak of, insulates like wool, and softens every year you own it. It is also the only silk you can wear without a moth having died for it.
Matte, grounded, warm to wear

Tussar is the wild one — reared in open forest rather than on a farm, with a slubbed texture and a warm honey cast that no cultivated silk quite reproduces.
